Neutral Posture
The foundation of ergonomic design is supporting neutral body positions where joints are naturally aligned and muscles are relaxed. This reduces fatigue and prevents repetitive strain injuries.
Height Optimization
Work surfaces should be positioned at elbow height when standing or sitting with shoulders relaxed. Frequently used items should be between hip and shoulder height to avoid excessive reaching or bending.
Reduce Repetitive Strain
Minimize repeated movements by placing regularly used items within easy reach. Vary tasks throughout the day to avoid sustained static postures and repetitive motions.
Support Natural Movement
Arrange spaces to encourage varied postures and regular position changes. Include opportunities for both sitting and standing work, and ensure adequate space for full range of motion.
Workspace Setup
Proper desk and equipment positioning prevents neck, shoulder, and back strain. Monitor should be at arm's length with the top at or slightly below eye level. Keyboard and mouse should allow elbows to rest at 90-degree angles.
